“An investigation is believed to have been initiated by the Department of Transport but it has not been reported to the Saps, so there is no criminal investigation by police,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“We consistently and continuously condemn all forms of fraud and corruption wherever they may take place and are working with the police (the Saps and its Hawks unit) to root out fraud and corruption where it has been reported at our operations,” said Nathi Sukazi, chief director of communications at the KZN DoT.

“A case in point is the arrest last month of 15 suspects in Umngeni Local Municipality’s Driver and Learner Testing Centre (DLTC). In the case of Umzinto DLTC, we would urge anyone who has information to report the matter to the police, so we can, together, defeat the scourge of fraud and corruption at our testing centres and thereby ensure the graduation of suitably qualified drivers who, in turn, will ensure safety on our roads,” said Mr Sukazi.

Umdoni Municipality was also contacted for comment, but at the time of publication none had been received.
