UPDATE: Children hacked to death at Bhobhoyi; granny critical in hospital [PHOTOS]

UPDATE – MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12

A Bhobhoyi family is reeling at the loss of two young children and are hoping for a full recovery of their grandmother, all of whom were attacked by the woman’s son yesterday (Sunday).

Mary Smith (58) is in a critical condition in a Durban hospital after her mentally disturbed son, Wiseman Siphamandla Smith (21), went on the rampage at about 7am yesterday.

Syamthanda Precious Smith (3)

According to police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum, Smith hacked his sister’s three-year-old daughter, Syamthanda Precious Smith and his brother’s two-year-old son, Thobane Khwane to death and seriously wounded his mother.

“Smith ran off to the N2 Main Harding Road  after the brutal attack, where  he threw himself at a passing motor vehicle and was himself killed,” said Captain Pandarum.
It has been established that Smith was on medication for a mental disorder.

Wiseman Siphamandla Smith (20), who went on the rampage and hacked his nephew, niece and mother.

The cases are being investigated by Lieutenant-Colonel Amos Skhosana of the Port Shepstone SAPS Detective Service.

Police were called to a horrific scene in Bhobhoyi near Port Shepstone at around 7am today (Sunday).

There they found a mother and her two children, aged two and three, had been savagely hacked, apparently by their father.

According to police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum, after the man had attempted to murder his family, he tried to flee across the N2 but was struck by a passing vehicle and died at the scene.

“The mother and children were rushed to Murchison Hospital, where all three died. The motive behind the murders is not known at this stage.”
