#Matric2017: Top marks for Sheppie High’s Julia Venter

Happy with their results are (from left) Rachel Venter (seven As), John Paul (five As), Anatasha Ngubane (three As) and Yogitha Sarah Baby (six As).

Julia Venter was Port Shepstone High’s top achiever scoring seven As, placing fifth in the Ugu District.

The school achieved a 98 percent pass rate and, out of 240 candidates, 184 achieved a bachelor’s pass, 38 a diploma pass and 12 a Higher Certificate pass.

Julia attended a prestigious function at the ICC in Durban where the top achievers were addressed by His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelethini, as well as the Ambassador for China, the KZN Premier, Willies Mchunu and the KZN MEC for Education, Mthandeni Dlungwane.

Julia, who plans to study physiotherapy, has been given a scholarship through Wits University. “I wanted to study at Wits University so I worked hard to achieve my goal,” she said.

Also to be congratulated is Julia’s twin sister, Rachel, who was dux in 2017 and Kiroshan Naidoo. Both Rachel and Kiroshan achieved seven A symbols.

Rachel, who has got a teacher’s assistant position at Port Shepstone Junior Primary, plans to study teaching at Unisa.

Kiroshan plans to study computer science either at UNISA or Wits University. In the meantime, Kiroshan is making role-playing computer games.

The talented twins also juggled a string of sporting activities such as hockey, soccer, water polo and touch rugby and agreed it was ‘good pressure to work under’.

Any advice to this year’s matric pupils? “My advice is work hard from day one – matric goes so fast,” said Rachel.

The school’s principal, Peter Jenkins, said they are very proud of Julia and pleased with the results overall.
