Umtamvuna Views: Recycling from home kicks off in Leisure Bay

Umtamvuna Views

Leisure Bay residents will now be able to dispose of their recycling waste on their own pavements. Through concerted efforts of the Leisure Bay Ratepayers’ Association, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has rolled out the service to Leisure Bay residents which will hopefully be extended to all South Coast villages in the near future.

Beautiful country

Louis and Pat Fourie of Mbabala Lodge have just returned from a lovely five-week holiday in New Zealand. They visited their son Jimmie and his family in Wellington and their daughter Annelie and her family, also travelled to NZ from their home in Clocolan, eastern Free State.

The extended family of 10 enjoyed three weeks together (six adults and four young children) hiked, camped in huts and experienced the true mountain terrain of this amazingly beautiful country.

After the family excursions, Louis and Pat did their own little trip up north, driving up the East Coast, criss-crossing the beautiful Coromandel and watching beautiful sunsets on the West Coast.

The last adventure before returning to SA was a day spent on Kapiti Island – a bird sanctuary for endangered birds of New Zealand.

Beach Bobbies reopens

A number of months ago the popular restaurant at the Port Edward beachfront closed its doors to the public. Beach Bobbies will reopen tomorrow (Thursday, 7th) for the holiday season, but will be closed on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Pop-up dinner

The Fiesta December pop-up dinner will be held at Far Horizon Lodge, on the corner of Old Pont and Izingolweni Roads next Friday evening (December 15) at 6pm.

Dine around the pool (with full bar facility) on watermelon soup and croutons, Cape Malay beef curry (beans and lentils for vegetarians) with vetkoek and sambals, baked cheesecake with apricot glaze.

Book or pay up front at The Liquor Cellar or Video Plus DVD (Ramsay/Kerry Ave).

In the wild

The Port Edward walking group travelled to River Valley Nature Reserve in Margate to enjoy their annual Christmas get-together. 54 members enjoyed the nature trails and views at this lovely local reserve. The weather was perfect for the sociable braai.

Jetsetters

Palm Beach resident Beryl Drynan has just returned from a six month vacation to England and Europe. Beryl primarily visited her daughter and two teenage granddaughters in Lincolnshire, but also met up with her South Coast friend Lorraine Fitzgerald in Athens where they boarded the fabulous cruise ship ‘Royal Princess’.

Three thousand pampered passengers sailed around the gorgeous Eastern Mediterranean islands and beaches for a week.

After the cruise, the two globetrotters enjoyed two weeks of ‘island hopping’ on and off ferries that took them to romantic Greek Islands like Poros and Hydra. Beryl also managed a few other travel adventures to Crete, Spain and Turkey.

Be at the AGM

The Leisure Bay Ratepayers’ Association’s (LBRA) annual general meeting (AGM) will be held at the Leisure Bay municipal offices in Fisherman’s Drive on Thursday, December 14 at 5pm.
