And of course, his mate Sheldon Cooper likes to remind him on every and any occasion.

But what exactly does it mean to have an irritable bowel?

According to The Doctors Book of Home Remedies, it means that certain foods and drinks and stressful events in your life – things that normally don’t wreak havoc on other people – give you altenating bouts of constipation, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

5. Add fibre to your diet.
