Lights, camera, action as TV commercial is shot in Ramsgate

Ramsgate beach was the scene for a TV commerical last week.

IT’S not surprising Ramsgate beach last week was the chosen location to shoot a TV commercial for the popular brand, Tropika.

Palm trees blowing in the wind, aloes and miles of beautiful beach offered crew from the production company, The Font and the agency, Joe Public Ignite, the ideal ‘tropical setting’ to film a commercial for Tropika’s new range called Tropika Slenda on Ramsgate’s Blue Lagoon Beach.

The 30 second TV commercial is expected to flight in October/November on the SABC channels.

Most of the 35 crew were from from Durban and Johannesburg, with a few casuals hired from the coast. Big productions, like this, has huge spin-offs for local businesses, and for example: the extra plants were hired from Sebenza Village’s Nursery, catering done by the Blue Lagoon Restaurant and the crew stayed in nearby hotels.

Councillor Dave Watson said all permissions were obtained and he supported the activity as it has brought economic benefit to the area in many ways and afterwards there will be some great footage of our beautiful beaches.

Telana Botes of Joe Public Ignite said they chose the location as it was beautiful and tropical which perfectly related to the brand ‘Tropika’.

The set was built on the beach on Tuesday, and beachgoers to Ramsgate got a glimpse of  ‘lights, camera, action’ on Wednesday and Thursday.

The howling wind on Thursday however brought it own set of challenges, but the ‘overcast and cold conditions’ certainly didn’t stop the show.
