A HARDING taxi owner had a close call, escaping uninjured after coming under fire in his home town last Friday.

Police said the taxi boss was heading home on the N2 when a bakkie pulled up alongside him and the occupants opened fire.

“The man, who was alone in the vehicle, managed to make a U-turn and drove towards the Harding police station,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

The bakkie followed, with the occupants still firing shots.

“The man explained the situation to police, and three officers gave chase. Unfortunately, shortly after spotting the bakkie the driver of the police car lost control of the vehicle, which overturned,” said Capt Mfeka.

The three officers were seriously injured, while the gunmen escaped.

No arrests have been made.
