Shashika said that she embarked on Hindustani classical training only after completing her university education but she loves to experiment with different styles.

“As a conscious artist I do not restrict myself to any genre. Rather I aim not just to entertain, but to create a positive shift in the consciousness of my listeners, hence my performances range from classical to pop, kirtan to folk to Bollywood. In fact, I allow my voice to roam as a free spirit singing from my soul,” explained Shashika.

By the age of 14 years, she had sung to some of the largest audiences in Durban and KZN, raising funds for old age homes, orphanages, charitable trusts, missionaries, spiritual organisations and various others.

Honoured at the World Hindu Conference in South Africa in 1995 for her contribution to Indian music, she also received the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha’s Honour Award from the Indian Consul-General Anil Sharma in 2011 for her sterling contribution to the advancement of Indian culture in South Africa through her music.

She also performed at the welcome reception of Indian PM Shri Narendra Modi to South Africa.

She has performed/recorded with eminent artists including Shri Kishore Kumar, Shri Mahendra Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Shri Anup Jalota, Shabbir Kumar, Sudesh Bhosle, Abhijieet, Sukhwinder Singh, Bappi Lahiri, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu and Adnan Sami.

Shashika is blessed with the natural ability to communicate, teach, heal and entertain.

Besides conducting workshops, Shashika also conducts music therapy sessions, voice classes and delivers motivational talks all with her unique, holistic approach.
