Triple car theft hits Pennington

PENNINGTON had almost no crimes reported during the past few months and then came along Wednesday evening, June 7.

It was an evening like most others in quiet little Pennington, especially for the residents of a Coral Road property at around 11pm that evening.

Despite the recent lack of crime, the owner of the property didn’t slack in his duty when he awoke to the sounds of dogs barking around 4.05am the next morning and went to check if things were in order.

Shockingly, not only had three cars been stolen from the property, but the premises had been burgled as well. “It seems that the bathroom window burglar bars had been cut to gain entry into the house and steal the keys to a white Mercedes, a white Honda CR-V and a grey Honda Civic,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Scottburgh SAPS have registered a case of housebreaking for investigation. The case has been assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Jacques Vermaak of the Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit.

The following day, June 9, both the Mercedes and the Honda CR-V were recovered by the vehicle tracking company with the aid of a chopper and tracking vehicles.

One of the vehicles was tracked to a location in Folweni. The other was tracked to the Durban city centre. The SAPS are still on the hunt for both the Honda Civic and the robbers.

W/O Vermaak appeals to anyone who may have any information that may help with the investigations, to contact him at 039-6859200 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
