Security officer ‘lazers’ in on robbery suspect in Umtentweni

Lazer 911 reaction officer Peter van der Hoven with a man he arrested in Umtentweni.

LAZER 911 Security was instrumental in arresting a man who had gained entry into a property in Umtentweni on Tuesday this week.

According to the security company, the control room received a mains failure alarm from the house and immediately dispatched an officer to the house in Link Road.

Basil Lanka from Lazer 911 said the mains failure was suspicious since there were no outages in the area.

“When officer Peter van der Hoven arrived at the house he saw an intruder removing putty from a window pane. When the intruder noticed the officer he ran into the bushes but was apprehended,” said Mr Lanka.

Further investigation by the officer revealed that the suspect had tampered with the electricity supply to the house. The officer found that the man was carrying a canister of tear gas,  possibly to deter the dogs or to use on the homeowner.

The 26-year-old suspect appeared in the Port Shepstone court on Wednesday and the case was postponed for further investigation.
