Wasted water upsets Sea Park residents

A water pipe burst flooding Casuarina Road in Sea Park last Friday.

A BURST water pipe in Casuarina Road, Sea Park, caused mayhem last Friday, leaving some homes with damaged driveways and in one instance, a flooded garage.

According to one resident, he had contacted Ugu about the leak at about 7am last Friday. At about 10.30am he had yet to see Ugu technicians and contacted the Herald.

The man claimed that he had contacted Ugu four times and was not given a reference number, let alone a response.

Ugu technicians had to release water from a fire hydrant in order to fix the burst water pipe.

According to Ugu spokesman, Sphelele Cele, a pipe had burst  outside Howe’s Auction Sales. “An excavator was needed to get to the leaking pipe. To avoid prolonged water supply interruptions to the area, technicians had to release water from a fire hydrant, south of Casuarina Road. This is a practical method of ensuring speedy repair of pipes that require extensive repair work,”  she said.

A large pool of water had collected in the vicinity of the burst and the water had to be drawn out by a vacuum tanker  as there is no stormwater drainage outside those business premises.
