Wave of house breakings hits sleepy Southport

POLICE have confirmed that housebreakings in the Southport policing area are on the increase.

The commander of Ugu cluster, Major-General Sethenya Nxamagele, has raised her concerns regarding the spike in housebreakings in the area and has tasked her management team and the station commander to implement strategies to combat this trend.

In one of the many cases reported, guards from a security company and Constable Shaun Kleynhans from Southport SAPS responded to a housebreaking in Casuarina Road, Sea Park, last Sunday.

“They arrested a 31-year-old man on the premises.  He appeared in Port Shepstone court on Tuesday this week and the case was postponed for a bail application,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Meanwhile police have appealed to residents to be vigilant and lock doors and windows at night.

“Valuables should be locked away and not left near windows and doors. Any suspicious persons or vehicles should be reported to   at 039 6819900 or 10111 immediately,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
