OPINION: ‘Staff are sassy at SASSA’

DEAR Editor,-

Since the SASSA office in Sheppie is temporarily closed because of the strike, I visited the office in Gamalakhe to register. To say the least, it was the most frustrating experience of my life.

I have been shunted back and forth to obtain documents that should be on the system, but because of gross corruption and inefficiency, we are forced to duplicate everything.

Because of the delays, it has taken almost three weeks to register and I still have to source yet another document.

This exercise cost me time, money, petrol and sanity. When I was eventually summoned to approach the desk, I was highly offended to be addressed as ‘uMlungu’ by the consultant.

Do these people ever get any training on customer service? Nothing is a straightforward, simple matter anymore and I fear we are doomed. The situation will not get better, only worse.
