‘Young bloods’ invited to join the patrol party and help fight crime

John Irven is looking for volunteers.

WANTED! Residents who can help with neighbourhood patrols.

“Come and join our extended policing family and help with visible patrols in residential areas,” said John Irven, who heads up the South Coast branch of the Community Safety Organisation (CSO) Community Orientated Policing (COP).

He is desperately looking for ‘young blood’ to help with day and night patrols in the suburbs of Sea Park, Southport, Anerley and Sunwich Port.

Last year, the organisation received a donation of Port Shepstone Rotarian Jim Docherty’s vehicle to assist in day, night and beach patrols or to transport needy members of the community to town or to the hospital.

“We need more volunteers to assist as we receive a lot of call-outs and we don’t have enough manpower to respond,” he said. He added that patrols also help with visibile policing to deter criminal activity.

He thanked Lazer Security 911 for always being their backup as, he said, without them they wouldn’t be able to operate as a CPF.

“We have a fully equipped community vehicle but just need crew to assist with back-ups and call-outs. It doesn’t cost you anything, just a few hours of your time and it is perfectly safe,” he said.

Anyone willing to volunteer will have to sign an indemnity form and do basic training. Contact Mr Irven at 072 3625632 or email him at [email protected]
