Restaurant of the Week: Fish on the River

Classic mouth-watering crispy fish served with tasty spicy rice.

SITUATED at Spiller’s Wharf on the southern banks of the Mzimkhulu, Fish on the River ticks all the boxes – great view, a relaxed and informal atmosphere plus delicious, value-for-money food.

Established in 2004, this landmark restaurant still serves the freshest, highest quality seafood, simply prepared at affordable prices.

The most popular dish is the catch of the day. This could be dorado, John Dory, snapper or red roman, but whatever it is, ‘the catch’ will always be grilled or fried to perfection and served with rice, chips or salad.

For the super-hungry the ‘King Mega’, a super-sized fillet of linefish, topped with six black tiger prawns, grilled and drenched in a creamy lemon parsley sauce served with side plates of chips and salad, is just the ticket.

A firm favourite is the eatery’s signature platter, Neptune’s Basket – a medley of seafood, including calamari and fish nuggets.

Vegetarians are catered for, and there are choices to tempt non-seafood diners.
