The knife dropped by the fleeing suspect.

A SECURITY guard shot a man after he pulled out a knife and threatened to stab a passer-by in the Port Shepstone CBD earlier this morning.

The drama unfolded at about 7am this morning, when a car guard saw three suspicious-looking men carrying property out of Settler’s Park.

The owner of a nearby business quickly reported this on the Port Shepstone Business Against Crime WhatsApp group, and within minutes a security company had responded, closely followed by police.

This broken fence at Settler’s Park has been reported three times by Ward Councillor Doug Rawlins. It is believed the men came through this fence with what are thought to be stolen goods.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said a passer-by on his way to work saw  the security guards chasing the suspect and attempted to stop the fleeing man.

The suspect then produced a knife and threatened to stab the man. When the security guards saw this, a shot was fired, which struck  the suspect, – Lt-Col Wiid

She added he then dropped the knife but continued running before collapsing in the the middle of the street.

He  was placed under arrest. Ambulance officials attended and transported him to hospital. The other two suspects ran away.

The injured suspect waits for medical attention.
