THREE suspects are behind bars and a fourth is on the run after attempting to murder a 37-year-old man in Bhobhoyi.

On September 16 the victim was at his home when he was confronted by three men and a woman who entered his house and demanded he leave with them.

When he refused, they allegedly grabbed him and forced him into a minibus, before speeding off to a bushy area in Bhobhoyi.

Once they arrived at a deserted spot, they forced him out of the vehicle and tied his hands to a tree. “They accused him of stealing a laptop,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The man claims that petrol was poured over his hands and legs and he was set alight. The perpetrators then left him there, burning.

He was later found by community members, who alerted the police who took him to hospital.

Last Friday Captain Simphiwe Shusha, together with other officers from Port Shepstone, arrested a man (31) and a woman (38) for the crime. They appeared in court and the case was postponed to tomorrow (Friday), January 6 for bail application.

On Tuesday this week a third man (37) was arrested.

He appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday). The case was postponed.

A fourth suspect is still at large.
