House robbers nabbed within hours

The stolen property recovered.

A MAN who was out on bail for house robbery was arrested later the same day for committing the very same crime.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said Sergeant Sean Pillay and Constable Rowen Govender were patrolling in Izotsha, when they noticed two suspicious men walking along the road.

“The men were carrying a suitcase and a box. The detectives searched the containers and found a plasma television set, a laptop and clothing and jewellery,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

The men (both in their 20s) were questioned and willingly took the detectives to the house in Izotsha they had robbed earlier. The homeowner, who was at work and not yet aware of the break-in, was contacted.

He identified the stolen property and opened a house breaking and theft case.

The two men appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

In another incident, Cst Joanna Hargreaves, Cst Sifundo Mbatha, Cst Khanyisile Gida and Cst Siyabonga Mbambo were in Shelly Beach last Tuesday when they received information about a robbery. The officers called Cst Ashley Ramsingh and Cst Senzo Nzama from the Port Shepstone K9 unit to assist them.

“Earlier that day a homeowner in Mitchell Drive, Shelly Beach, reported that her house had been broken into. A 9mm pistol with a box of rounds, a laptop, clothing, a safe key, a BMW motorcycle key, a video camera and some other items had been stolen,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

Following up on information the officers surprised the robber near Shelly Beach with the loot he had just stolen. All the stolen property was recovered. An 18-year-old man has appeared in the Port Shepstone court.

Port Shepstone station commander, brigadier Agnes Nxamagele, was delighted with the quick arrests and expressed her appreciation towards the officers for the recovering the stolen property.
