PS Secondary pupils stand out at science expo

Port Shepstone Secondary pupils Raeel Jamal (left) and Akshay Singh produced excellent projects for the recent Regional Science Fair.

PORT Shepstone Secondary is proud to announce that two of its pupils produced excellent projects at the Regional Science Fair held at uMzinto Town Hall recently.

Raeed Jamal (gr 9) presented a project based on the greenhouse effect, which illustrated how radiation from a planet’s surface heats up its surface temperature and the subsequent impact on the planet’s atmosphere.

Akshay Singh of gr 11 was awarded a prestigious silver medal for his innovative engineering machine which could be used by sugar cane farmers.

He called it ‘In pursuit of a new engineering solution’ and the aim was to bridge the gap between mechanisation and the difficult conditions under which farmers operate.

He designed a tractor-drawn sugar cane harvesting machine, which could be used on the steep KZN coastal gradients, yet still be economically viable for small scale farmer to improve efficiency of farming operations.
