Art by the Sea exhibition reveals South Coast’s hidden talent

LOCAL artists displayed their artwork at the well-established Art By The Sea exhibition opening held at Margate Art Museum last Thursday.

From high school pupils who are still novices to highly experienced painters, the exhibitors at the well-attended event showed just how much hidden talent the South Coast has.

Guest speaker, Howard Kelly, encouraged the painters and commended them for their incredible work. Mr Kelly said it was quite motivating to have such a group on the coast making sure artists develop their skills.

“Technology has made our world so fast but art is still at the heart of everything, among us there could be a best-seller as your paintings would be among the best in the finest exhibitions around the world.”

A range of paintings was on display for viewing and sale on the day.

Mckayla du Bruyn (15) is delighted to get a prize at the Art By The Sea exhibition opening held at Margate Art Museum last Thursday.

Members of the Art By The Sea were quite ‘chuffed’ to have their families, friends and potential buyers view their magnificent paintings.

The club has existed for more than 40 years, growing from strength to strength. The group has held many successful exhibitions at various venues annually.

During the opening, painters were also given prizes and acknowledged for their fantastic work.

Mckayla du Bruyn (15) of Margate won a prize for her strawberry drawing. Speaking to the Herald, she said she painted for fun but would love to pursue it further.

The exhibition will run for more than a month and all art lovers are welcome to view and buy paintings.
