From the bowling greens: Top bowlers get the nod

 

WELL done to those who have been invited to play in the 2017 Masters Tournament.

They are Dora Vosloo, Ellen Cawker, Franci Philpott, Heather Roberts, Hilary Holmes, Jane Massam, Jessica Henderson, Kobie Stander, Leisje de Rosner, Leoni Booth, Maureen Muller and Pam Cole-Cook.

For the men, those invited are Claude Ching, Dumisani Madlala, Eddie Fann, Ferro van Greunen, Ian Kalil, Louw Vermeulen, Mark Smith, Ron Weddell, Ross Ferguson, Roy Anderson, Shane Nienaber and Simon Schaaij.

The Champion of Champions will be held at Riverside on August 26 and 27.

Put your entries in for the Ugu South Coast Tourism Bowls Fest from September 11 to 15.

The men’s selectors’ standing committee is Bruce Hoyer (convenor), John Mitchley, Ron Weddell, Dieter Scholz and Sean Larkins.

All squad members are reminded that at least six 20/20 score sheets must be submitted at the squad training this weekend for the coaches to record.

BANNERS REST

WINNERS of the GP Security mixed pairs played last Friday Rod and Mary Phelps, with runners-up Rob Lyle and Denise de Witt.

Second session went to Hazel Delaney and Ally Weir, and the 50/50 board to Dice Graaff.

The Tops Port Edward men’s pairs, which ended after nine rounds, were Dave Hume and Leigh Warner.

Runners-up were Brian Camps and Ally Weir. Third went to Steve Rennie and Andreas van der Linde. Steve Rennie won the 50/50 board.

Next sponsored competition is the Warwick drawn mixed trips on August 16.

Banners Rest is one of five venues to host the Lower South Coast 2-4-2 mixed pairs from August 28 to September 1.

HIBBERDENE

THE Tiago’s Open Flame nominated mixed trips last Friday was won by Arthur and Miriam Seager, with Barbs Sates.

Second were Marie Coetzer, Hana Svoboda and Estelle Quinn. Session was won by Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, with Judy Aiston.

Next comp is this Friday (11th), sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy.

MARGATE BC

JIMMY Johnson and Austen Knowles won the Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach men’s 2-4-2 last week, from Alan Dinning and Ken Tonge.

Second session to Gerry Davey and André van Niekerk.

Social bowls this Sunday from 9am. Duties: Office – Ellen Cawker; tea – Sheena Absolom and Vicki de Beer.

MARGATE CC

THE Hair Shoppe women’s fours was won this month by Jenny Rawlins, Gill Thiele, Ann Payn and Elana Frizelle.

Runners-up were Norma Louw, Anji Gold, Hazel Williams and Dina van der Walt. Elfrieda Goosen won the 50/50 draw.

The Engel & Volkers men’s fours will be played on August 18. AGM will be on September 2.

MUNSTER

WILLIE Smith won the 30-club, followed by Llewellyn Angus, Barry Fowler and Andrew Bromley-Gans.

Winners of the Highrock mixed pairs were Sergio and Pat Ruperto from Rob Lyle and Val Smith.

PORT SHEPSTONE

TEN teams played in the recent South Coast Herald fours, won by Brian and Jenny Rawlins, Caroline Harris and Winnie Hess.

Runners-up were Elfrieda Goosen, Annette Suther, Astrid Jackson and Desiree Krause.

Group toucher prize was won by Rynier van Tonder, Leon Sanders, Ricky Robertson and Kevin Mullins with no less than 12.

RIVERSIDE

HEARTY congratulations to Maureen Muller, Shane Nienaber, Ron Wendell, Ross Ferguson and Ian Kalil on being selected to play in the KBA Masters.

The Hopdens open trips will be played next Thursday (17th) at 1.30pm.

SOUTHBROOM

WINNERS of the Mariner’s open fours last week were Shane Nienaber, Dieter Scholtz, John Richards and Barbara Brook.

Runners-up were John Sutton, Ally Mitchell, Doug Kent and Derick Shell.

Sessions to Steve Rennie, John Keppler, Aubrey Hood and Jenny Rennie, as well as Alfred Shusha, Mike Jacquet, Nico Mantoan and Lorraine Wijtman.

50/50 to Sean Larkins.

SOUTHPORT

BOB Moroney and Lyn Harris won the in-house Fruit & Veg competition last week.

Runners up were Don and Shirley Russouw. Session went to Artur Lopes and Alan Wallace.

The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips was won by Vell Mannion, Annette Suther and Elena Frizelle.

Runners-up were Marie Coetzer, Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque.

Session prize went to Tammy Gibbons, Daphne Hounsell and Kitty Cochman.

Southport Service Station mixed trips was won by Mike and Vell Mannion, with Susan Delpech.

Runners-up were Richard and Kitty Cochman, with Hennie Greyling.

THE BELL

MEMBERS had a great ‘Day at the Races’ last Saturday with some very promising young bowlers joining in the fun.

Thanks to Sharolyn Dacey for organising this and all the members who assisted and took part.

Winners of the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Leon Sander, Sandy and Stan Penny and Gary le Brasse.

Runners-up were Rynier van Tonder, Keiron Dacey, Steve O’Moore and Winnie Hess.

Second session went to Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk, Daphne Hounsell and Chris Harris.

The list is on the board for nominations for the 2017/2018 committee. AGM is September 2 at 3pm.

UMTENTWENI

PEET van Rooyen and Steve O’Moore won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs from runners-up Dennis Graham and Mike Findlay. Tony Korb and Dumisani Madlala won the session prize.

The next competition is the Wimpy women’s pairs next Thursday (17th) from 9am.

The Umtentweni/Southport Fellowship Mixed Trips and bring and braai will be held at Tweni next Sunday (20th).

VILLAGE

GARY Hess and Dawn Oehley won the Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2, followed by Bill and Nelia Reed.

Sessions went to Hermann and Sharon Scheinberg and to Carl Volker and Rosalie Bloom. Betty Bolton won the the 50/50.

Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips was won by Oscar Pienaar, Roy Baker and Garth Philpott, followed by Graham Fisher, Vernon Clements and Brent Addison.

Sessions went to Brian Douthwaite, Bill Eccles and Martiens Olivier and to Alan Tyers, Clive Bignell and Bill Parfitt.

The Food Lover’s Market drawn mixed trips was won by Ken Hills, Chris Allen and Maureen Roach, followed by Bill Parfitt, Jean Dean and Manny Piquito.
