The arrest was a result of a joint crime intelligence operation between the Crime Intelligence Unit, 10111 Call Cente, K9 Unit and Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit.

Public Order Policing (POP) officers from Durban were dispached to assist Ugu Cluster stations with crime prevention and intelligence driven operations over the weekend.

During these operations, 14 people were charged with being in possession of small quantities of dagga, and paid admission of guilt fines. A total of 48,035grams of dagga was seized.

Eight people were charged with the possession of dangerous weapons and 13 knives were confiscated.

Six people were charged with dealing in liquor without a license, resulting in 144 bottles of liquor being confiscated.

One person was also charged with drunken driving and 11 for loitering.

“It would appear that the operation had a positive impact as noticeably fewer crimes were reported over the that period,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
