Four men arrested: suspected stolen property and unlicensed firearm recovered

MARGATE Tracing Unit has made a breakthroughs regarding several housebreakings in the Margate area.

According to SAPS spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, last Friday members of the unit received information about ‘suspicious-looking’ men at Nositha location.

Following investigations, the men were apprehended and found to be in possession of several items thought to have been stolen.

“After questioning, a 26-year-old man led the tracing team to KwaXaba in Gamalakhe, where he pointed out some of the stolen property which had already been sold.”

The man then led the team to a second suspect (40) who was found in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition in the Margate area.

A third suspect (48) was arrested in Gamalakhe for being in possession of stolen property while a fourth (29) was found in Margate with three plasma television sets.

All the arrests were made by Detective Warrant Officer Michael Welsh, Detective Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk, Detective Sergeant Senzo Mlambo, Sergeant Mduduzi Mpofana, Constable Sandile Xolo and Cst Ndumiso Nzimakwe.

The suspects appeared in the Ramsgate Court on Monday this week and were remanded in custody pending further investigation.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic examination to establish if it can be linked to any other crimes.
