A NIGHT out, which was supposed to be fun, ended in tragedy for the Lushaba family of KwaNzimakwe after their daughter was murdered, allegedly by her lover.

Samkelisiwe Lushaba (24) was  stabbed to death near a tavern in the Gcilima eMatsheketsheni area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is believed an argument broke out between the couple, which led her boyfriend to stab her multiple times in the neck and chest with a beer bottle.

Lushaba, mother to a three-year-old daughter, was doing her teaching practicals at the Esayidi TVET college in the Thongasi area at the time of her death.

According to friends, she was visiting Gcilima when she was killed.

Family spokesman, Thandeka Lushaba, said her parents were hit the hardest by her sudden death as they still expected a lot from her.

“To educate a child for years, hoping they’d have a brighter future, is every parent’s duty but it’s very painful when their dreams are shattered because someone decided to rob them of their child.”

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid confirmed that a murder docket has been opened for investigation.

Following the #Menaretrash campaign and various peaceful marches in Port Shepstone central business district, where women came out to urge men to end the spate of killings, this is the second domestic-related murder in the area in less than two weeks.
