OPINION: ‘Don’t care just about animals you like’

DEAR Editor,-

I was very curious to see the response to the article about Dianne Hayter and the feral cats.

I read the newspaper with anticipation, but just got more upset by the minute.

It is quite evident throughout the paper and saddens me that people have such little love for nature and animals.

Articles ranging from water sabotage to drowning puppies and shooting hawks with pellet guns.

People accuse Dianne of being the problem, but it seems that they are the ones who have no respect for animals.

To be honest, I am not a cat lover because I am allergic to them, but it doesn’t make me behave inhumanely towards them.

At one stage I looked after these cats for a period of two weeks.

I really think that people should be educated about whether they should or shouldn’t get a pet.

And if they do decide to get an animal, they must take full responsibility, care for them properly and have them sterilised.

Every so often we read about people who have torched dogs and shot monkeys.

Now someone shot a hawk. It really saddens me that people can’t compromise.

Wild animals have been living here before us and we can live in harmony if we want to.

Dianne did not invite these cats into her house and they were always a humongous problem at the clinic.

Dianne saw a problem and used her own initiative and became proactive, making a plan to get things under control by raising funds until almost every cat from the colony was sterilised.

But there is always someone who is not prepared to sterilise their own domestic cats and the colony kept growing.

Initially she used to feed the cats at the clinic, but eventually fed them at her home because they arrived there anyway trying to find food.

Feeding them twice a day discouraged them from catching wild birds and did not make them breed more.

What kind of a mindset does the complainant have?

Looks like he shot himself a in the head when he shot the poor cat with a kettie. Karma will come around.

When will humans wake up and realise that they do not own the universe.

Live and let live – That is my plea to all humans.

Protect and be kind to all animals – not just the ones you like.
