The said teacher was given an official letter on Tuesday this week, dismissing him from all duties. Jai Hind Primary was dogged by controversy from 2013 up until the appointment of the new principal, Jeff Dunraj.

Tension among teachers and parents grew when the maths teacher was promoted to principal, even though he allegedly missed a total of 100 maths lessons.

They also accused him of ‘fuelling racial tensions’. He was suspended in June 2015, together with another grade 4 teacher, as a precautionary measure pending the disciplinary hearing.

The alleged misconduct was based on undermining the administration of Jai Hind Primary and the Department of Education, being absent from work without valid reason, inciting other personnel to unprocedural and unlawful conduct and intimidation, victimising fellow employees and failure to carry out lawful instruction.

In the matter of the grade 4 teacher, she was allegedly found guilty of misconduct and was issued sanctions. It is believed that the department is still finalising her placement at a school.

The Department of Education in Pietermaritzburg was contacted for comment but none had been received before going to print.
