Police were called to the house after the family’s nanny reported to the home in Thokothe at about 7am and found Thobeka Shusha (36) and her seven-month-old daughter Sbahle lying in a pool of blood.

Inside a nearby house police discovered the body of Mrs Shusha and her daughter, both of whom had been stabbed to death. Mrs Shusha’s son was detained.

She had suffered two open wounds to the neck and the baby had also been stabbed in the neck.

“We are still investigating but it is believed that man may be mentally challenged,” said  police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“It was too horrific, a real tragedy and it’s going to affect a lot of people. Seeing them lying next to each other in a pool of blood will always remain with us,” said one shocked community member.
