Scottburgh burglar’s run-in with K9

Warrant Officer Brendon Rensburg (left), Zeus and Sergeant Brandon Gates of the Umzinto K9 Unit.

EARLY on Monday morning a burglar had a run-in with a four-legged SAPS member which led to his arrest.

Police were patrolling on foot when they spotted a suspect fleeing from a property in Williamson Street.

K9 ‘officer’ Zeus was released after the suspect failed to obey police commands to stop.

Zeus brought the suspect down just before he could escape.

The suspect was apprehended and found to be in possession of a television remote control, a television cable as well as various housebreaking tools.

The owners of the property were completely unaware of the burglary and  were still fast asleep when police arrived on their doorstep.

It was discovered that access had been gained through a sliding door which had been forced open.

A case of house-breaking has been registered for investigation by the Scottburgh SAPS.
