Help raise funds for Ramsgate’s reservists

Wesley Paul of Wy-Go hands over a R5 000 cheque to Quinn Meecham, operations co-coordinator of the Ramsgate CPF while Constable Jabulane Jili (far left) and Constable Phumlile Gaza look on.

BUSINESSES are challenged to pledge a donation towards the bonuses of the police reservists who work at the Ramsgate Community Police Forum (CPF).

Wesley and Claire Paul, owners of Wy-Go, donated R5 000 towards the initiative last Friday and is now challenging other companies to either meet or beat the ‘Wy-Go Challenge’.

Mr Paul said that he felt compelled to raise the funds for the eight reservists when he heard that one had pulled a 36-hour shift to protect homes and families.

“This kind of commitment to keep other people safe is really noble.”

Mr Paul, who moved here two months ago from Gauteng, said residents of Ramsgate live in a gem of a place. He explained how his family fled to the South Coast due to a series of crime-related incidents that changed their lives.

“It’s a first in a long time that we feel safe in our home in Ramsgate, but we shouldn’t for one minute take this for granted.”

He said sleeping in your home is a basic right, but feeling safe in your home due to the efforts of others is a privilege.

Many hands make light work and many pennies make a fortune, – Wesley Paul.

Mr Paul said the idea was to thank these men and women in blue for their hard work and he humbly urged the community to support the ‘Wy-Go Challenge’. It must be noted that businesses can write off these donations for tax purposes.

If you didn’t know, the Ramsgate CPF is a fully functioning police station where the public can get documents certified and police can open a case and respond to emergencies.
