POLICE divers – together with the National Sea Rescue Institute – retrieved a body drifting offshore near Palm Beach earlier today.

The body was spotted by anglers on a private deep sea fishing boat.

The body was taken to the state morgue and an inquest docket was opened.

In an unrelated incident, a human skull was today discovered in the forest at Woza Ward, Port Edward by someone collecting firewood.

Search and rescue team members Warrant Officers Francois Pretorius, Marc Wiid, Gabriel Nel and Rommel da Rosa from Port Shepstone SAPS K9 unit, were called to see if any other skeletal remains could be found in the area.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said that after a wide search, no further remains were found.

“It would appear that the skull had been there for quite some time,” she said.
