Baby abandoned in bush

Detective Sergeant Beautus Cele from Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) holds a baby who was found in a bushy area in Murchison on Tuesday this week. 002

POLICE were called to Murchison on Tuesday night this week after someone heard a baby crying in the bush.

He immediately went to a nearby house and asked for help.

“The community searched the bushes and found a baby, only a few months old, wrapped in a blanket.

“There was a note and a bag containing water near the infant,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

It is believed the note was left by the mother.

Detective Sergeant Beautus Cele from Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) is urging anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the child’s mother to contact him at 082 3349682.

The baby was taken to hospital.
